Emily and Nick matched on a dating app in early 2020. After bonding over Nebraska, dive bars, and being curmudgeony, they casually scheduled a first date the following week, March 7th. In the span of that week a pandemic surfaced in the US and their lives changed forever.

Emily knew Nick was special after he asked “wanna meet my cat Ronnie?” Nick knew Emily was special after Ronnie met Emily and immediately cuddled next to her.

Their love blossomed. Eventually Ronnie got to meet Emi's cat Margie, and they became a family of four. In May 2025, Emily and Nick got engaged under a starlit dark sky in Utah.
